I watched the Coronation not because I’m a fan of monarchy, but because it is history in the making and I wanted to witness it. I had so many thoughts as the event progressed that I needed to make a list:
The Coronation is such an archaic, yet beautiful process. So many stolen jewels and so much gold! I am sure Vladimir Putin was jealous.
Jesus played a very prominent role. I wondered if the Christian Nationalists were watching and what they thought. Is their Jesus the same as Britain’s Jesus? I guess both the traditional British royalty and Americans are historically power hungry colonizers who don’t like people who disobey and step outside the lines to find their own happiness...like Harry. But good on Charles for bringing in a bit of diversity — both religious and gender.
Say what you will about Charles III, but he is the first “organic” King. He has been made fun of for his passion for organic farming and gardening for decades, so I can relate to him. I see people all the time “discovering” regenerative agriculture and organic for the first time and having that ah-ha moment, stepping on the train because it’s now trendy and cool. Ummm….some of us, including the then Prince Charles, built the train tracks. Building train tracks is brutal and hard work. Charles was right there. Plus, he makes and sells the absolute best organic tea.
Thinking about organic and nature got me thinking about what makes a Disney Princess. They, too, get a lot of crap from people for getting little girls expectations up to think some Prince is going to “rescue” them. But that’s not it at all, really. What all the Disney Princesses have in common is an intimate, loving relationship with nature — the animals, the birds, the land, the spirits. That power and loving kindness is what Princes are attracted to. Is that so bad? No. It’s good. And yay for Disney making Princess movies that don’t end in hooking up with a guy! Moana, for instance, is one of the most powerful spiritual environmental girl power movies ever made.
Speaking of girl power, Princess Ann is the BOSS!
Speaking of Princess Ann, at the end of the day the royal family is still just a family in a family business. People always tell me I should watch Succession and I say fuck no, I lived it. It’s not something one wants to relive. I worked for my mother for 20 years, which were the hardest years of my life. My mother was well loved by many. But that didn’t make her an easy person to work for. I was 47 when she passed away and I finally became CEO. Charles had to wait until he was 74! Poor guy.
And then there is Queen Camilla. Camilla vs. Diana and the ghost of Diana. I remember watching the wedding between Charles and Diana very early in the morning in 1981. We now know all was not what it seemed. But in 1981, the monarchy was more concerned with breeding and blood lines than true love. Royals were like horses, which we know Queen Elizabeth loved so dearly. Diana was an incredible person who was haunted and hunted by papparazi to her death. That was wrong. But we ate it up in gossip magazines and news rags, so the blood is on our hands too. Camilla, on the other hand, was the mistress. Let’s just say I felt for her, too, and celebrated her becoming legitimate. Few mistresses ever do. She is the lucky one. The thing about mistresses and their lovers is that it’s a lust relationship, often accompanied by love. Hopefully in the future both royals and every day people will focus on finding true lusty love rather than creating heirs bred for beauty, performance and bloodlines.
All the astrologers were talking about what an inauspicious time it was for a coronation. Something about a full moon in scorpio, an eclipse and whatever else. But it went off without a hitch…for now. Except what was up with that grim reaper? Was that real? Who did that?
Somewhere during one of the songs — which were all beautiful and majestic — I started thinking about the word “coronation” and it’s similarity to coronary, which is a heart attack. Coronation comes from latin, and refers the a crown. The coronary arteries act like a crown around the heart. By the way, my stroke occurred in my corona radiati, which is the white matter of my brain — the crown inside my skull. The brain is an organ. And the organ in Westminster was amazing. Aren’t words so interesting?
The universe is fascinating and I’m honestly curious to see how Charles III, the Organic King will rule. Let’s hope does good things. At the very least we know he likes to read books and is an excellent gardener and farmer (I’ve been to his garden at Highgrove, by the way, and it’s magical. Truly magical.) So, God save the King? Maybe. But definitely God save Humanity. Hip hip hooray! Hip hip hooray! Hip hip hooray!
Thank you for pointing out what I think is obvious about Harry...wanting to find his own happiness. I'm tired of hearing Brits say he has an "obligation" after all they've done for him!
LOL "I am sure Vladimir Putin was jealous." best line
