I am learning the lessons of letting go of the "busy-ness" of life, focusing on that and those that bring me joy, and marveling at the beauty of life and nature. It cam be difficult in our overly excessive pressure to work and be productive (with obvious results).
Nap more. Read for pleasure. Watch the sky change colors at dawn and dusk. Say "thank you " more often. Smile.
Just yesterday I began listening to your beautiful book (and soothing voice) on Audible while taking an Equinox walk. I can hardly wait for more earth sisterly wisdom today as I take in these written words to advise my own behavior. Healing waves are moving in your direction...
5, 11, 21 and 24 were powerful for me. I think you forgot to mention how you can use your platform to teach others. I put your book review out on Central Bucks Gardeners and it got 35 "likes" and everyone is "digging" it! And you are a truly authentic person with much to teach--here is one more.
I'm just loving your book! I couldn't put it down yesterday and I can't wait to get home from work to finish it. Have you heard of Neale Donald Walsch?
Between his conversations and your journeying, I keep thinking you two would make one hell of a lecture series together! Does he know you? Send him a book! LOL
Maria! I'm so sorry it's taken me this long to reach out. Been thinking of you a ton, just not a lot of downtime here that doesn't involve sleeping & eating. Love to have a few moments today to finally catch up and see that you're feeling more in control and on the mend. It goes without saying that I'm glad you're ok. How scary! I'll follow up on this, but I want to suggest you consider water fitness or aerobics class. My mom used to teach it, I taught it a few years before moving over here. If you love to dance and always dreamed of flying, the water is supportive, offers gentle resistance and is powerfully healing. Seriously--it's a great way to get moving and have fun without stressing your joints. Be well. Sending healing hugs.
Thanks Liz! I do love waterdancing! And water running, too! I do have a pool that’s open from May through September. Need to find a winter pool that’s clean and friendly. Once Lucia is in college I plan to fly south for the winter. Not sure where yet.
I'm so glad you have (nearly?) bounced back from this scary episode. I have no doubt that it shook all of us who admire you. I hope spring's sunshine and gentle breezes restore you fully. Cheers!
I relate to this post completely. Everything is me-except I still own my business, it is not a family business and I did not have a stroke. But I was diagnosed with significant heart disease in 2020. It is amazing how life can get away from you and the focus is on business vs creating a full life outside of business.
I travel a ton- but that is not a hobby. Never had hobbies.
I wish you improved health Maria- and thank you for sharing your truth.

My mother, her sister and my sister all had hemorrhagic strokes. In November, I had an MRI to check for brain aneurysms. I do have a tiny one on the left side (1mm x 2mm), but I don't have high blood pressure like my mother or sister. It's good to know your family history and you should be proud to be 61 and not taking any pharmaceuticals (though, that may have changed now). And you should be proud to be back up and moving quickly. That seems to be important...getting stroke victims back up and moving as quickly as possible. You're an amazing woman who's accomplished so much. We still need you, so take care of yourself! <3
I wish you lived here in Phoenix and could join my one-of-a-kind gym. It’s sad that there aren’t more like it! It’s called Ability 360 and it’s geared towards disabled, chronic disease sufferers and elderly. They have your typical weights and equipment gym plus a wonderful pool, spa and therapy pool. The star of the gym is two beautiful indoor courts where they host both wheelchair and regular basketball, pickle ball, soccer and other sports. And they have classes geared towards their members such as chair yoga, stretching exercises etc. There are personal trainers available who are experienced with a wide variety of special cases. I have MS and have a wonderful personal trainer whose mother has MS so she intimately understands what I deal with on a daily basis. Membership spans people with MS, ALS, cerebral palsy, strokes, Vietnam vets, and more. I have been to many gyms in my life and always felt like I didn’t belong but here I do! I truly hope you can find some place where you can go and feel like you belong. It makes starting a routine and sticking to it so much easier! You’ve got this!
See? You are make a great recovery! It took me 2 years to drive at all. The limp and limb weakness are still with me but this year I found a trainer to work with and help me.The fatigue sticks around for about 6 months but regular mild activity helps build it up. If your lucky to not have spasticity at that point then you may feel a lot better sooner. My medication is holding me back. My Stroke of Insight and Handiwoman by Kate Davies are both excellent books to look at.

So many thoughts.. a Concept 2 rower is the greatest single exercise your can do most conveniently( if done properly)
Another good one! Water Aerobics followed by some rowing . . . ;-)
As long as you have a pool!

Yes! I went through a phase where I was really into him.

All good lessons, ones that were good to hear dealing with long covid still. Hugs to you Maria, excited to read your latest

I think it's your family history as you were/are quite young and I'm very jealous your peas are already in.
