Love it. The funny thing about high school is that you can just go sit wherever you want. Jocks want to play D&D and nerds might think hockey is fun. But there’s a pressure to be afraid to interact because we’re all so scared of being thought of as other, by everyone.
The other monkey in the room is sometimes there’s a really bad bully, and if you don’t stand up to him, he’ll never care he’s hurting people.
This sounds like the beginning of a great road map (GPS of course) to the future, Maria. We need this practical, outlined approach and everyone needs to work on the stories that have been inflicted upon them to heal and become a part of the future. Thank you for this.
When I became a father 21+ years ago I realized that I got to give my son all the love I never got growing up. We understood that love is the only thing in the Universe that requires one to give it away in order to claim to have it. The more we gave, the more it came back to us as he grew up and continues to this day.
Socially, 'do unto others as you would have them do unto you' is mentioned in 11 religious texts, even the Koran. This is where the first settlers drew a line in the sand on Plymouth Beach and became the foundation of America. Self-governance encapsulates 'do unto others' The instant you seek a way to avoid that is the instant you become the problem America was explicitly designed to prevent, and it shows up in your relationships with those who have differing religious beliefs and ideology. The founders warned against political parties for this very reason, they are spiritual viruses that infect every single modality and always lead to ideologues who put money above love.
Love your high school clique analogy. So true. Maybe it's human nature to want to "belong" to a group, or community, of like-minded people. But our two-party system has become more like high school sports teams, so entrenched, with no room and little tolerance for diversity or individuality.
In a world full of tests for “in-group” and “out-group” friend or foe, which humans seem to have participated in for all time, how do we get the “others” to drop their defenses and pick up the mantle of curiosity?
I had to think about why it was bothering me and I guess it's because I came away feeling more attacked as a Democrat. Almost as if you were giving a pass to the current regime because that's just the way they are. I know may think differently.
I still love you...keep posting and fighting the good fight. :-)
Yes. The truth. I wish it wasn't but it is. I kept thinking of the perfect bedtime story, me too. And the yellow brick road, and a much slicker grifter wizard. The flying monkeys in the wings, with wings, waiting. We must save ourselves, those of us who see, together. It's been a long time coming. Hmm, good list of down to earth reality, democracy, and I don't have daddy issues, but saw and see all of that 'growing up'. I, like many of us, try to turn the anger and frustration into common, every day action. I love bedtime stories, and also the ability to see into, between, and beyond it, them. It's what's real, that fascinates me. Where to go as the dawning comes.
I think what will stay with me, unfortunately, is Adrien Brody’s cluelessly smug rambling and “asserting” his time for a record breaking length of nothing really said. Did you watch?

Truth!

Thank you for sharing Maria!
Thanks Peter! I think you will like the post I’m working on now. Hoping to post it today.
A Brilliant response to the speech! Thank you.

Good question! Potluck picnics? Honest conversations.
I'm arguing with myself in my head right now. "Say it!", "Don't say it!", "Be respectful!", "Move on!"
But since I've never one to keep my mouth shut and now is not the time for silence...
This is not one of your better posts in MY opinion, but I respect your right to voice your opinion.
Thanks for saying it! I appreciate your honesty. Was there something specific that you didn’t like?

And I’m sorry if you felt attacked. I was just trying to be more objective. I love you too! Thank you.
I am certainly not giving a pass to the current regime!

Great piece and good for you for listening to the whole thing - thank you for that and for laying out your ideas for us
The failed patriarchy on full display.
Excellent piece, place definitely had vibes of a hs cafeteria on the verge of a clique war. Love the nudge for a shamanic cleanse, too.
Thanks! What did you think of the Oscars?

Yes, agreed. Awful. Anora is now high on my list. I love that it was only made for 9 million.
